Our community was recently featured on the "Foundation for Intentional Community" (FIC) (link here) where members from our community describe what living in our community is like.
We are a community that owns 135 acres of land of which about 30 acres can be used for agricultural purposes and the remainder for use in hiking, getting back to nature and other recreational uses.
We have a large communal building called the Skyhouse that is our central gathering place for communal activities. This includes shared meals, socializing and hosting other retreats and events.
Also on the property is a smaller private off-grid "Earthship" style house with solar electric, passive solar heating with planter and gray water processing, composting toilet and rainwater collection and two "Earthbag" houses. Our plan is to build more off- grid tiny homes using sustainable construction to house permanent residents and guests.
We have converted another building to our garden seeding and greenhouse starts area. Our large four car garage has been converted into a communal workshop with a 40 foot work bench and houses our construction tools.
Our community is consciously aware of how we obtain our food, water and energy and build our houses and utilities. We strive to minimize the purchase of unnecessary consumer goods with associated packaging. We consciously evaluate our habits and actions and strive for the best behavior that results in good personal relationship to ourselves, others and the environment. We recognize that a well functioning community is necessary for our success. Our intentional community is influenced by the Dancing Rabbit community.
The land, all houses and infrastructure is owned debt free. We are currently working on a legal structure to hold these assets with a way for members to buy into ownership or rent. Member decided fees will be required to pay for communal meals, common insurance, utilities, maintenance, property taxes and agricultural supplies for our food production.
